Recipe Creation
Chef Guillermo is always coming up with new recipes, both for commercial production and for eating at home! Here is the recipe for a new salsa he created.
Habanero Hot Sauce
INGREDIENTS
● 3 habanero peppers
● 1 medium onion
● 3 medium carrots
● 3 garlic cloves
● 3 tbsp olive oil
● Salt to taste
● 1/4 cup orange juice
● 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
● 1/4 water (if needed)
DIRECTIONS
- Start by slicing the habaneros.
- If you want to minimize the spiciness of your salsa, remove some or all of the seeds.
- To avoid irritating your skin, use a fork and knife, while doing this, especially since it really hurts if you touch your eyes afterwards.
- If you like your salsa quite spicy, just leave the seeds in.
- Dice the onion and chop the carrots.
- It’s not common to use carrots in Mexican salsas, but Guillermo knew they would make a great addition.
- Chop the garlic.
- Add oil to a pre-heated pot on medium.
- Add the chilli peppers, onion, garlic, and carrots.
- Stir and add salt to taste.
- Cook on medium low for about 5 minutes, or until the onions are translucent, stirring occasionally.
- Cooking the carrots and onions helps bring out their sweetness, which adds a lot of flavour to the salsa.
- Add the orange juice and apple cider vinegar.
- Cook on low heat for another 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the salsa to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
- If it’s hard to blend, add a little water.
- The salsa is ready to eat!
